United States vs. England

England are aiming to make history as they prepare to take on the USA with a first ever women’s World Cup final squarely in their sights, as a landmark tournament moves towards a nailbiting climax.

The World Cup in France has generated record TV audiences for the women’s game and Phil Neville’s side come into Wednesday morning’s (AEST) clash against the reigning champions in Lyon with more people than ever expected to tune in to see them push to go one better than in the previous two editions, when they lost out in the semis.

Each team has won all five of its games in France heading into Tuesday’s World Cup semifinal in Lyon. One is about to have its dream dashed. England vs USA LIVE: Fifa Women’s World Cup 2019 semi-final build-up and latest team news. England face world champions USA for a place in the Women’s World Cup final tonight. The Lionesses have hit form at the best possible time in France with their performance to see off Norway in the quarter-finals their best yet. Now comes the toughest test to date with the 2015 winners the hot favourites to take glory again.

The U.S. was able to take care of France, who was considered the co-favorite heading into the tournament. Team USA benefited from another early Megan Rapinoe goal just as it did against Spain. For the second straight match, Rapinoe added a late second goal to give the striker five goals in the tournament.

The biggest question heading into the match was how the USA’s defense would perform, especially goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher. The U.S. was tested often, but Naeher along with the backline proved to be up for the challenge aside from a late goal. France scored with less than 10 minutes remaining to make for a compelling ending to the quarterfinal matchup. It was the best defensive performance we have seen from the United States.

Victories over Cameroon and Norway in the knockout stages of the competition have seen the Lionesses reach the final four for the second competition running.

As for the USWNT, they knocked out holders France as Megan Rapinoe scored twice to mark herself out as one of the main threats for Phil Neville’s side.
